Loch Duich at dawn © Ronald W WeirRonald's grandfather, who opened his first professional photographic studio in Glasgow in 1903, worked in all fields of photography from commercial to studio portraiture.

In 1945 Ronald's father James took over the Greenock studio. During the late 1950s Kodak gave his father two sheets of a new slide film suitable for colour reproduction which gave birth to colour calendars, books, postcards, etc. He became one of Scotland's first colour landscape and stock photographers selling his scenic photographs for all colour publications including the first colour calendars of Scotland.

Ronald entered professional photography on leaving school and trained in a Glasgow industrial photographers. He was then offered the position of Scottish Photographer for a publishing house and travelled the length and breadth of Scotland photographing scenes and historic houses for calendars, postcards and guide books. After a few years he became self-employed as a travel photographer and travelled the world in search of the perfect scenes.

He is based in Perthshire where he focuses on Scottish scenes and wildlife. He sells his work, calendars and postcards.

Ronald has convereted to digitial and uses Nikon and Fuji professional equipment.
