Yetholm Loch lies in a small crescent shaped valley at the edge of the Cheviots. At the southern end of the loch the floating swamp gradually gives way to fen and willow scrub. Some of the plants found here are nationally or locally rare. Yetholm Loch is designated a SSSI for its open water, fen, swamp and marsh habitats.

Best time to visit:

  • April to July for breeding birds
  • October to March for wintering wildfowl

Access

  • Information
    From the lay-by go through the gate and follow the path (some boardwalk) to a bird hide on the western edge of Yetholm Loch.
  • Directions
    From Kelso follow the B6352 South-east. About 2km before Town Yetholm take the right turn on the narrow road to Lochside, where you soon see lay-by on the left.
  • Restrictions
    Visitors are requested not to enter the fen area due to its delicate nature
