Whitlaw Wood

Whitlaw Wood, known locally as Duke’s Wood, is on a steep bank of the Slitrig Water where it turns northwards to join the River Teviot. The wood has a mixture of ash and elm with pockets of beech and hazel and the small meadow supports over 120 flowering plants. The reserve is part of a SSSI designated for its broadleaved woodland.

Follow the track that runs between the Golf Course and housing at Burnflat, carry on uphill past the stables and through the gate. Take the left fork on a muddy path (with boardwalk) until a set of wooden steps on the left into the meadow of Whitlaw Wood. - Directions
From Hawick High Street head south, cross the Slitrig Water and turn left up Howegate (one-way), continue uphill along Loan, Rosebank Road. Park near the corner of the Golf Course. - Restrictions
The woodland is very steep and easy access is only possible on the meadow.
