On the steep south facing slopes of the Ythan River, Gight Wood is one of the least disturbed areas of lowland woodland remaining in Aberdeenshire, with many native deciduous trees. A key feature of the landscape is the ruin of Gight Castle once home to Lord Bryon’s mother and abandoned since the late 1700s.
