Visitor Centres

Falls of Clyde, New Lanark

Located within the World Heritage Site of New Lanark, our fun four-star visitor centre allows people of all ages to learn more about the Falls of Clyde waterfalls, woodlands and the animals which live there.

The exhibition includes a unique bat booth, wildlife crafts and a superb honeybee  observation hive (April to September) housing a colony of over 20,000 bees. This fascinating exhibit allows you to watch the bees build their intricate honeycomb right before your eyes!

Pleasant riverside walks lead from the visitor centre through the reserve providing fantastic views of the waterfalls.

Stop in at the visitor centre to pick up a map or buy a souvenir of your visit from our well-stocked gift shop.

Loch of the Lowes, Dunkeld

Ospreys have been nesting at this reserve in the heart of Perthshire since 1969 and the hides provide a real bird's-eye view of their nest.

Loch of the Lowes Wildlife Reserve covers 98 hectares and from early April to late August the star attraction is a pair of breeding ospreys. Their nest is situated within 150 metres of our observation hide, allowing osprey family life to be observed through binoculars, telescopes and closed-circuit television (CCTV).

Red squirrels and great spotted woodpeckers can be seen from our viewing windows, and fallow and roe deer are often seen from the hide. Red squirrels and pine martens visit the feeders at the viewing windows.

Montrose Basin, Montrose

A bird haven situated in the heart of Angus on the edge of a tidal estuary, the Basin is of international importance for over 50,000 migratory birds each year. The winter spectacle of over 30,000 pink-footed geese arriving is not to be missed!

A great place to begin your visit is the visitor centre where our viewing gallery provides panoramic views across the Basin and high-powered telescopes and remote cameras literally bring the wildlife into the visitor centre. Marvel at the sight of the sand martins in our man-made sand martin bank, catch an amazing view of the kingfisher fishing in the pond right in front of the Centre and have the unique chance to watch common and arctic terns nesting on our floating tern raft.
