Kintail Watch Club

The Kintail Watch Club is organised by the Kintail Ranger Service and is aimed at children in P3 to P7. We will be exploring nature and the environment, mainly on a local level. The club will meet in a variety of locations so that we can observe the rich wildlife in our area. The club is affiliated to the Scottish Wildlife Trust so we can also be involved in national projects, such as surveys. It costs just £1 per child per meeting. Parents are welcome too!

Here are the dates we’ll be meeting and things we’ll be doing during summer 2010:

 

Wednesday 14th July 14:00-15:15 Reraig.

Meet in lay-by opposite the Reraig Store. Seashore exploration- come and find out what wildlife lives in and around the bay. Bring wellies and waterproofs. 

 

Wednesday 21st July 14:00-15:30 Kirkton.

Meet in the lay-by opposite the shinty pitch. Iris Planting- help create the new “wildlife friendly” wildflower meadow at Kirkton.  Bring wellies, waterproofs and gloves you don’t mind getting dirty.

 

Wednesday 28th July 14:00-15:30 Loch Achaidh na h’Inich, near Plockton.

Meet at the small car park at the loch. Butterfly and dragonfly walk- the loch is a great place to see these beautiful little creatures, so come along and help us carry out a survey of them. Bring wellies and waterproofs.

 Wednesday 4th August 14:00-15:30 Drumbuie.

Meet at the start of the crofters’ track (by the green shed). Grid ref: NG 775 312. Sea watch- the seas surrounding us include many interesting animals, including many kinds of birds, otters, porpoises and even whales, so who knows what we might see?!

 

Wednesday 11th August 14:00-15:30 Plockton.

Meet at the main car park at the sea front. Seashore Rock Pooling- what animals will we find lurking in the pools or beneath the rocks of the shore? Come along and find out! Bring wellies and waterproofs.

 

Wednesday 12th October 14:00-15:15 Inverinate Hall.

Bat Box Building- come and make a home for bats.Indoor event.

 

Wednesday 19th October 18:45-20:00 Lochalsh Woodland Park.

Meet at the car park at the old FC campsite next to Balmacara Square. Bats and Moths Night Walk- We’ll go for a walk through the woods- at night! Many animals are more active at night- including owls, bats, moths, badgers and pine martens- so who knows what we may see or hear? Bring a torch and waterproofs.
