Newhailes NTS Detectives are based in Newhailes, East Lothian, and is for children aged 7-12. if you are interested in joining the club, contact us- details are at the bottom of the page.

2010 Programme
 
23rd January       Magical Mammals                       10 – 11.30am
Find out about some of Newhailes’ furry friends; they’re well hidden at this time of year, so we’ll have to use some special tricks to find out about them...
 
20th February     Snowdrop Spectacular                        10 – 11.30am
At this time of year, snowdrops are in full bloom, join us as we learn more about flowers and take part in some games and challenges about them.
 
20th March           Gorgie City Farm                      10am – 12pm  
By popular demand we are off to find out about where our food comes from and the animals that live down on the farm… Please get your parents to talk to Hannah or Mark about travel plans.         
     
17th April            Get Planting!                             10 – 11.30am
Tree planting was really popular last year so in 2010 we’re going to get our hands dirty again, this time planting wildflowers to improve the habitat by the Inveresk Pond.
                       
15th May              Pondemonium                           10-11.30am
Learn more about the many species living at Inveresk Lodge Gardens as we go pond dipping, meeting a variety of different creatures living below the water. What will we find? We can check up on our wildflowers too!        
 
19th June            Den Building                             10 – 11.30am
We’ll be taking a trip outside to build and create some of our own dens using the natural resources available to us, the possibilities are endless!
 
14th August          Bees and Bugs                           10 – 11.30am 
Without bees, where would we be? Join us as we discover the wonders of bees and the amazing things they do, and that’s not all, we’ll also be finding out interesting facts about bugs.
 
18th September      Portraits and Enlightenment          10 – 11.30am
Newhailes is home to a collection of family portraits, come along and find out more about them. View others as they would have liked to be seen at various points in history, having fun along the way.
 
16th October         Autumn Art                             10 – 11.30am
Nature is a work of art at this time of year; we’ll be taking inspiration from the leaves to release our creative sides.
 
20th November       Seabird Centre Seals                 10 – 3pm
Some animals aren’t waiting for spring to have their young – the seals in the Forth have their pups now! We’ll be seeing them and finding out all about them at the Seabird Centre in North Berwick.
 
18th December       Christmas Party!                       10 – 11.30am
Games and activities with a wildlife theme, plus our famous quiz (with prizes!) about all the things we’ve done this year, don’t miss it!
 
Meet at the Education Room in the Stable Block at Newhailes for most meetings, except those below:
 
A reminder for all the parents!
Don’t forget that there are a couple of months when we are meeting at different times and places from normal:
March – Gorgie City Farm If you can drop your child off at the Farm (and collect them!) we would appreciate it, if you can’t please call Hannah and talk about other travel options.
April and May – We’re meeting at Inveresk Lodge Gardens.
November – Seabird Centre We’ll have a minibus for this trip and will leave Newhailes at 10am, arriving back at 3pm.
 
Please note there will be no Detectives Club meetings during the summer school holidays (July).
