Marine and Coastal

Scotland has over 16,000 km of coastline and over 88,000 km2 of sea - that's 60% of UK waters! Currently less than 0.001% of this is protected and many habitats and species are being damaged or destroyed by human activities.

Marine Bill Campaign

Find out what Scottish Wildlife Trust and Scottish Environment LINK are campaigning for in this year's groundbreaking Marine Bill for Scotland.

Living with the Sea

The Living with the Sea outdoor marine banner project celebrates wildlife and people. People of all ages from the coastal communities of the Ullapool area helped to create 25 colourful outdoor banners, on display on buildings in Ullapool throughout the summer. The banners bring together stunning images of local marine wildlife from the UK's best underwater photographers and local photographs of people living and working with the sea. Five of the banners were drawn and painted by pupils from local schools.Living With The Sea Banner 9

The banners link people and marine life. They show that myriads of little-known, fascinating marine creatures form the heart of the marine ecosystems that support fishing, fish-farming, recreation and tourism and everything we do in the sea. We simply cannot exist without them. The exhibition also celebrates a very important time for Scotland's seas as the Marine Bill passes through the Scottish Parliament.

Living with the Sea was managed by SWT, with help from Ullapool Harbour Trust, the Ullapool Tourism and Business Association and Wester Ross Environment Network. It was funded by Scottish Natural Heritage, Awards for All and the EC Highland LEADER 2007-2013 Programme.Living with the sea banner- exploring wrecks
