Planning

Telford Road, EdinburghScotland’s wildlife is under increasing pressure from development including commercial and domestic building, transport infrastructure and agriculture. These human activities are currently monitored and approved by the Scottish regulatory system of planning, which helps to shape and protect our towns, cities and countryside.

SWT has produced two strategic documents which explains our involvement in the planning system and sets out our policy priorities:

Planning Policy

The Planning Policy explains SWT’s position on how biodiversity and nature conservation should be supported by the policy, practice and legislation associated with the Scottish planning system. Central to the policy is the need for the planning system to protect wildlife and actively support and promote wildlife conservation, enhancement, restoration and expansion. The policy covers subjects from development plan and national planning policy formulation to specific site issues such as restricting the further fragmentation of semi-natural habitats.
