Laurie Campbell
SWT would like to thank Laurie Campbell, wildlife photographer, for his continued support. The opinions on Laurie's website are his own and are not necessarily endorsed by SWT.
With a life-long interest in natural history, Laurie first began photographing wildlife whilst still at school. Almost 35 years later and after dedicating a career to documenting Scottish natural history, his archive of upwards of 140,000 photographs is the most extensive held by a single photographer working in Scotland today.
Being a generalist ensures he rarely returns to his base in the Scottish Borders without photographs, whether they include images of pine martens or close-ups of obscure species of lichens from Scotland’s Atlantic oakwoods. Simply being out in the field and receptive to different subjects helps him understand how whole habitats work, which in turn is key to learning where to find different subjects in different seasons.
Given that for it’s small size, Scotland has such a diverse range of habitats and wildlife, it’s perhaps not to difficult to understand why Laurie finds no shortage of subjects and is content to continue documenting the natural history of the country he loves.
